In 2012, Simon Brown was looking to meet new people when he spotted an advertisement for Probus in Salmon Arm. There, he met Gary Koo, and together they learned that the Salmon Arm chapter had already reached its maximum capacity. While they could not join immediately, the Salmon Arm club offered to sponsor a brand-new club in the Blind Bay and Sorrento area.
They accepted the sponsorship and eagerly set to work. Through a combination of eye-catching posters, local advertisements, and extensive personal networking, they invited community members to join a group dedicated to intellectual stimulation, fellowship, and fun.
For its first two years, the newly formed club met at Toad Hall—which cost a whopping $10 per hour to rent—before heading over to the former Toby's Restaurant for lunch. As the club grew past 25 members, it outgrew the space and required a larger venue. Jean-Luc Desgroseilliers, then-president of the Cedar Heights Community Association, persuaded the club to relocate to the Cedar Heights facility, which has proudly served as its home ever since.
